Quality cosmetics
The Body Shop's soap products are manufactured by Soapworks, a company based in Scotland. All of the other products are manufactured by third parties. In spite of this, The Body Shop maintains rigid quality control standards by carefully monitoring their production partners and tracing the source of all ingredients. Representatives from the company visit each supplier at least every two years, and all suppliers must meet The Body Shop's Code of Conduct. This ensures the purity, safety, efficacy and consistency of the finished skin and beauty products sold by the company.
Natural ingredients and fair trade
For each of these products, The Body Shop insists on their composition with natural ingredients, including aloe from Guatemala, organically grown cotton from Mauritius, organic babassu oil from Brazil and camomile oil from England. The Body Shop is committed to offering products made of ingredients from responsible and sustainable sources. The company works with and supports over 25,000 farmers across the world who supply 20 different naturally-derived ingredients.
The Body Shop Community Trade Program supports long term, sustainable relationships with marginalized communities around the world. The Body Shop gets good quality products and ingredients and more than 25 communities get access to a sustained source of income, which can be invested to improve living conditions, education and health. Money earned through trade with The Body Shop has enabled producers to build wells in their villages, educate thousands of people about AIDS and HIV and provide schooling for hundreds of children.
Beside advocating fair trade, The Body Shops also support cruelty-free products. As part of "Cruelty Free International", they are committed to never testing cosmetics on animal. They also worked in collaboration with Leona Lewis, a British singer and the current Body Shop's muse, to create a limited edition product line dedicated to fight against animal testing.
